We landed at Dublin airport at around 1pm. We got our Rental car and found or home for the next month in Multyfarnham. We Pat and Una our hosts and there very energetic dog Poppy. We took a quick trip with Pat to see an Irish bog and then we explored town a bit.
Our first view of Ireland through the clouds.Coming in for a landing in Dublin, Ireland. Now that we have come in under the clouds you can see the beautiful sandy coastline. Going through customs was not what I expected, they simple stamped each passport and waved us on. Now we have to find baggage claim and see if our luggage made it to Ireland. I thought Dublin was an English speaking country, yet all of the signage is in Gaelic, then English.Except this reminder, English first, because visitors need reminders. Now we need to find the rental car shuttle so we can collect our rental car, and brave the roads!Alright, got the rental car.It sounds fast, but in reality that's just under 75 mph.
Staying on the left hand side of the road is not the problem, passing oncoming traffic on roads so narrow you feel you need to suck-it-in is terrifying!Ok, an hour and 20 mins from Dublin airport and we have arrived in Multyfarnham. Such a beautiful area, can't wait to settle into our charming vrbo.Really only one road in Multyfarnham, and Weirs is smack in the middle. I suppose we should pull up and knock. The owners will be our host for the month, I hope they like us!Una and Pat are such welcoming people. Here is the enterance to our Irish home for the month.Family living space on the main floor. clean and tidy, we'll get Molly (the sprinkler) right on it.Upstairs: one room sleeping space. The beds are comfortable and we were able to put most of our things away in the cupboards. All moved in for the month. The courtyard out the door is very charming. We can enjoy the mild temperatures and lovely flowers. There is a beautiful yard and small garden pond just around the corner, so pretty. Our accommodations are just behind Weirs restaurant. The buildings are stone and vintage, but add to such a fairytale feel.Molly is having fun exploring the property, with the dog. Pat and Una have a Springer Spaniel dog, named Poppy! Molly and Poppy have become fast friends.Pat is going to take us to the bog! In Ireland many people still burn turf to heat their homes in the winter months. Jonathan helped him unload the turf into the shed area, now we are going to help him get his last load. At the bog collecting turf! The Weir's yard is extensive and they have put a lot of work into making it so cute, it's hard to see, but there is a small garden pond here just on the other side of the rocks, and a little wooden bridge that crosses it. A nice place to sit while we watch Molly and Poppy play in the yard. Hard to see the greenhouse and garden past the large trees. And here comes Poppy, bringing her toy back so we can give it another toss. The vines on the building add to the overall charm. To the side of the restaurant is a lovely patio area. You can sit in the fresh air and have a bite to eat. I hear Una makes a tasty selection of desserts! On our way to look around the village and walk the dog.Need to catch the dog first. Oops he likes the pond. Taking the dog to the river to swim Poppy loves the water! Stone walls line the streets where there are no businesses. Where did they find so many stones, there are literally hundreds of miles, maybe thousands of miles of stone walls. So old and beautiful!Tractors driving down the road are common place. The neighbor down the street has a Hobbit Garage.Beautiful, old church across the street from where we are staying, still holds service ever week. No parking lot, so the street gets crowded.Old ruins behind the church. The story of the Children of Lir seems to be everywhere. This little park in Multyfarnham has a little garden with an arch with swans on it. In the story, the stepmother was jealous of the children and turned them into swans.Another feature of most Irish villages, is an old cemetery. This one is in Multyfarnham.Remnants of old structures are everywhere.Old school fire hydrantA giraffe in Ireland?Miles of stones walls in Multyfarnham.Molly found a snail.
